Intro:
As nikon
is making their FX lenses (For full frame Cameras like D800, D610 etc.) since
1950, there are lots of choices for FX lenses. All FX lenses are mostly superb
in quality and costs a lot. Nikon introduced DX version lenses for their crop sensor
cameras (AKA DX cameras, e.g. D7000, D7100, D300s, D90 etc.) in 2003, which is
more affordable for a specific purpose. You must be wondering what may be the
basic difference between FX & DX is.
Well, the
basic difference is simple. FX are designed to work with Full Frame Camera and
also we can use it in crop bodies. In crop bodies, sensor size is smaller
significantly and uses only the center portions of the lenses. So, you are
paying extra amount of money a FX lenses (Especially zoom lenses) if you don’t
know the correct DX alternative. Therefore, using some DX lenses which are
specially made for DX version cameras are sometimes money saving.
Yes of
course there are some outstanding FX lenses which cannot be matched in quality
and purpose for DX lenses. Still there are great DX version lenses. I will
discuss FX lenses in depth in other article. Also affordable FX lenses are
mentioned here which can be used in Crop sensor/DX cameras.
DX
Lenses:
Wide
zoom:
For wide
zoom use there are few choices. And for real Wide its a bit expensive (still
lesser than FX formats). I prefer AF-S
DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED (BDT ~70,000) over AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED
VR (BDT ~55,000)
The
reason is simple, if u want real wide you need the 10mm point (15mm in 35 mm
equivalent). There is no point of getting a 16mm lower point where you can get
a AF-S DX NIKKOR
18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR in
around BDT 7000!!!
Quality???? Of course 16-85 is sharper in corners... but
hei 50k for corner sharpness?? No one will ever notice the corner sharpness,
Trust me!!
Lots of
people thinks (I thought it to before) Nikon 18-105mm VR (BDT 18,000) is a
better lense than 18-55. But Both
lenses has almost same components and image qualities are identical in
both.
So AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED
(BDT ~70,000) is
the choice if you want it Real Wide.
Normal
Lenses (Prime lenses):
Nikons
all Primes are FX but, there is a DX one! The great AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G (BDT
~14,000). It’s
an all-purpose lens and great in low light. Simply you don’t need a 2nd lens
for your camera. It’s fast (aperture 1.8), Superb in quality and sharpness. So,
if you are not lazy enough and ready to move around a bit... 35mm
(52.5mm in DX, which is a NORMAL focal length) will be
your best choice in Portraits, Street. And decent group photos.
You
might be thinking am I ignoring the All-time great and Cheapest prime FX AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D (BDT 6,500)???
Not at
all. But if you don’t own it yet... go for 35mm instead of it because all
because it will give u more range in shooting. 50mm
prime will
give you a slightly more BOKEH than the 35mm in identical aperture ... but I am
OK with that.
AF-s Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 G is the latest upgrade
of the old one. It has better image qualities in terms of creamier bokeh and
color. Still not worth the price BDT 20,000. But
you might need if you are using entry level Nikon cameras (e.g. D3300, d5300
etc.)
